Austin-Smith-Lord's Qasr Al Hosn Cultural Quarter proposal for ADACH was developed during 2008–2012 with a stated project value of £400 million, across a precinct of approximately 160,000 m². The scheme brought together the historic fort’s restoration, galleries, a library, performing arts facilities and public spaces to create a cultural destination for local and international audiences. Its ambition was to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s global cultural standing while safeguarding and celebrating Emirati heritage. A key requirement was to support ADACH’s role as cultural guardian and arts commissioner through integrated facilities and opportunities for public engagement.
