Completed between 2008-10 for Minerva plc, Grimshaw’s St Botolph Building is a 61.8-metre office and retail development at the City of London’s eastern gateway. Across 13 office levels and a project area of 52,000 m², it provides the large, adaptable spaces Minerva needed to attract a range of tenants, including those requiring dealing floors. Grimshaw positioned four service cores around a stepped, daylit atrium to keep the floorplates open and flexible. A system of 16 lifts operating in eight shafts further reduced the space needed for circulation and increased lettable area. Delivered by Skanska under a £150 million construction contract, the building also brings retail activity to the surrounding streets.
